Renovation Update #1

Updated: Jul 3

First, thank each of you for your continued prayers about the FBC Renovation Project.  We are getting close to beginning demolition.  The first crew to come in will be here on Monday, August 7th.

I want to give a clear explanation for where the project is heading and how you can follow along.

Where are we going to meet while the renovation project is happening?

On Sunday mornings we will meet at 10:30 in the Columbia Christian School Gym for our worship service. This will allow us to continue to all meet together.  We will have a modified Sunday School on our First Baptist campus at 9:00, giving our people plenty of time to get from Sunday school to the worship service.  (And maybe even swing by McDonald’s and get an Egg McMuffin!)

How long will we be out of the sanctuary?

We will be out of our sanctuary from August 11th with a projected return to the sanctuary in early February.  We had all hoped for a faster turnaround on the renovation. However, with the scope of the project, some modifications we had to work through with our design firm, and adding the installation of a new baptistry to the project, we are now looking at a timeframe of 6 months. The other bid that came in had a projected project timeline of a year, so we are still working on an expedited timeframe.

Will we be having Sunday School, Kid’s ministry, Choirs, etc., during this process?

Our plans are to continue as many of our current ministries as possible. We have a plan for Sunday School, FBK, Children’s Choir, etc. The only ministry that will not be meeting in full capacity during the renovation will be the adult choir. They will continue with a praise team model since we will not have the ability to have a choir at CCS gym.  All the updates for when and where these ministries will meet can be found on this website on the "weekly schedule" tab.

This is an exciting time for our church.  We are preparing our church facilities for the next generation and my prayer is that this renovation accomplishes much of that goal.  However, a renovation is a volatile time for a church.  I pray for our continued faithfulness to the mission of God.  I pray that even in the midst of this renovation, God uses FBC for the advancement of the Gospel.  I pray that remains our focus.

Please continue to be faithful to attend, give, serve, and pray for our church during this time.  I am encouraged that we have already paid off nearly 20% of the anticipated cost.  Please consider giving (above and beyond) to this renovation project and the work of the ministry here at FBC.
